Biju’s primary research interest is to discover Earth’s biological diversity, identify patterns that reveal how biodiversity has evolved, and understand the mechanisms that shape and maintain them. His research integrates extensive field work, natural history observations, traditional museum studies, and modern laboratory methods and tools. For over three decades, he has engaged in teaching and research in India and abroad. So far, he has described 121 new taxa (2 families, 10 genera, 109 species), nearly 25% of India’s amphibian diversity.

Current Members

Sonali completed her doctoral research at the Systematics lab. She is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Museum of Comparative Zoology and Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology, Harvard University. She also continues as a Research Associate with the Systematics lab.

Akalabya completed his doctoral research at the Systematics Lab. He continues to be associated with the Systematics Lab to complete projects initiated during his PhD studentship.

Akalabya Sarmah

Radhakrishna got introduced to frogs during his college days. He joined the Systematics lab to pursue a PhD on the evolution of frog calls. He is currently compiling his data and writing his thesis.
